Full Metal Crowns – Full metal crowns have the longest track record of any restorations in use today. They are considered to be the most conservative type of restorations. It is ideal for posterior restorations with very limited reduction available, especially in bruising/sensitive patients.
Porcelain fused to metal crown (PFM) – PFM crowns are a hybrid between porcelain and metal crowns. These crowns have a metal core and are overlaid with aesthetic porcelain. While Full Metal Crowns are not normally acceptable to use in cosmetic areas, PFM crowns are aesthetic, strong and durable, they are useful in higher load bearing areas like the back teeth.
